6. A Helmet

A Helmet

There is the man. He is there with a crown–a crown of thorns.

His grace gives Him strength to endure. Why must He suffer, they ask. He has done nothing to deserve this kind of treatment. No human being should receive this kind of treatment. His love holds him fast to His purpose despite their doubts.

You look into His eyes. You see a person, a person who knows what lies at the end of this hard road. You see eyes of hope on that gentle face. That crown of thorns begins to look like a crown of glory, a crown of salvation, a crown of hope.

He looks at you and wonders, are you willing to see that this life is temporary yet heading toward the beauty of everlasting joy? Can you see beyond? Can you accept the Hope that I give?

A HELMET, PROTECTING OUR MINDS WITH THE HOPE OF SALVATION

Hope is the virtue that broadens our view. It helps us to see beyond this part of the journey. It tells us that there is something better than a momentary dissatisfaction or even the deep suffering we may feel. It helps us to not hope in the world’s ability to save us but to hope in Jesus, the Way, the Life, and the Truth and believe that He really does know what He is talking about. It helps us believe that His Saints, His followers, His Apostles, know what they are talking about, too. It allows us to fly when everything around us is falling apart. Hope is where we throw our anchor, aiming toward Heaven where pain and suffering are gone.

An authentic woman knows where to place her hope:

  • As a mother, we encourage others with our experience, helping them through difficult times even when we ourselves cannot see any good because we believe that God, our generous Creator, can bring good out of everything.
  • As a sister, we walk along the path, realizing that pain and suffering in the mind is redemptive if only we return it back to Jesus, our Hope. He has an amazing way of bringing goodness to every bad thing. His Agony and Passion brought His Resurrection and ours.
  • As a daughter, we follow the path that our Lord has given us, the one that is shaped like a Cross, and we trust that He really does know what He is talking about—we have Someone, Someone who loves us dearly, who wants us to reside in the Presence of Pure Love.

Jesus has already won, but He cannot save you without you. This world, as it is, is temporary. It cannot last, but there is something wonderful that will. Hope in Him; He is right there.

But she will be saved

through her motherhood,

provided women persevere

in faith and love and holiness,

with self-control.
