Brigid of Ireland

cicra 450 to 525

Baptized by St. Patrick.

Said to have been beautiful, became deformed so that she would be given permission to live in virginity for Christ, then was healed as soon as she took the veil for consecration.

She was the first abbess in Ireland.

Kildare, where she lived, became the center for learning and spirituality.

She was very artistic, founding an art school that became known for its illuminated manuscripts.

She is well known for her compassion, her help for the poor, and her vibrancy in spreading the faith in love.
