Quotes from my favorite spiritual director

The Sacred Spouse in the Song of Songs says that his spouse has wounded his heart with one of her eyes and one hair of her head (Canticle of Canticles 4:9)….This is why the Divine Spouse would give us to understand that he is pleased to accept not only the great works of devout persons, but also the least and most trivial, and that to serve him according to his liking, we must take care to serve him well, not only in great and high things, but in those that are small and low, as we can both by the one and the other wound his heart with love.

–Introduction to the Devout Life

It is reason that makes us men [human], and yet it is a rare thing to find truly reasonable men because self-love turns us away from the paths of reason, leading us unconsciously to a thousand small yet dangerous injustices and partialities which, like the little foxes spoken of in the Song of Songs, destroy the vines.

–Introduction to the Devout Life

Grace is so gracious…that she in noways offends the liberty of our will; she touches powerfully but yet so delicately the springs of our spirit that our free will suffers no violence from it.

–Treatise on the Love of God

St. Francis de Sales, pray for us!

God is love

He is in love with you

You are His Beloved

Beloved, turn to authentic love and let your heart be healed…

About lamehousewife

poetry, articles, thoughts, and quotes... on a quest to be authentic in my motherhood, sisterhood, and daughterhood, but i can tend to become Juvenalian sometimes, maybe in writing but also in life, reading Swift's "A Modest Proposal" as if i were hearing a friend speak to me about the how ridiculous some ideas can become, especially when they begin to drift into reality, mocking all of us really... i identify with Mary Magdalene, James, and Peter and am extremely grateful for that woman who said, "Yes!"...oh and i can be pretty lame...blessings to you, dear reader...pray for a single mother, her children, and the father of her children today!
