When I first went to the slums to teach catechism to the children, I ask a little four-year-old child, Nironjon, “Can you tell me about the Blessed Trinity?”
“The Blessed Trinity is like my finger,” he said. “See, there are three parts. Each part separately does not make a finger but only the three parts together make one.”

About lamehousewife
poetry, articles, thoughts, and quotes... on a quest to be authentic in my motherhood, sisterhood, and daughterhood, but i can tend to become Juvenalian sometimes, maybe in writing but also in life, reading Swift's "A Modest Proposal" as if i were hearing a friend speak to me about the how ridiculous some ideas can become, especially when they begin to drift into reality, mocking all of us really... i identify with Mary Magdalene, James, and Peter and am extremely grateful for that woman who said, "Yes!"...oh and i can be pretty lame...blessings to you, dear reader...pray for a single mother, her children, and the father of her children today!
i liked the way the child described it!
Me too…pretty clever:)
Out of the mouths of babes! So simple!
Yep. So many things reflect that Great Mystery, and, at least for me, so simple, yet often overlooked. Thanks for the comment, Biltrix!
That’s so clever!
I know. Who woulda thunk?
Not me. It’s perfect.
Usually when I teach my first communion cathechism class about the Blessed Trinity, I use a picture of a 3-leaf clover, one leaf but 3 different parts. However, I like the analogy of the finger. I think I’ll borrow from Mother Teresa and use it in class this coming catechism year. Thanks for posting, LH.
You are welcome, 8kids!
Jesus said Suffer the little children to come unto me, and forbid them not: for of such is the kingdom of God. Whosoever shall not receive the kingdom of God as a little child, he shall not enter therein. As a little child, I’ve often wondered; they accept so simply and understand so simply. They haven’t had time to complicate things. Would that we could see the thing of God so simply. Something to ask for. And while I am here I’d like to nominate you for the Illuminating Blogger Award. Posts like this one are why. Please, follow this link for the award: http://lifesearchforchrist.wordpress.com/?p=2606&preview=true If you choose to accept this award, I would be most honored. God bless!
I think children help us parents in a particularly special way. That is why embracing our motherhood or fatherhood is so important. We can see the treasure of goodness that God pours through them if we choose to accept. I pray that parents embrace their parenthood for this reason–so that they can see as the child can see. Thank you so much for the award, Gracie. I appreciate it. God bless…
And Jesus answered him, The first of all the commandments is, Hear, O Israel; The Lord our God is one Lord: …
Mark 12:29
Does this quote describe this to you, then? Good to hear from you again, FHC!
“God is Spirit”, John 4:24
I wonder if the comparision with the finger is such a good theology.
Hi FHC. I’m confused. Do you not believe in the Trinity?
